The
genus Lantana belongs to the Verbenaceae family and is an example of the genera
still included in the Verbenaceae sensu strictu, according to Cantino, 1992
(Zomlefer, 1994).
The remaining 2/3 of the
conventional Verbenaceae sensu latu have been transferred to the Lamiaceae
sensu latu.
