LAB SCALE : - MILLIGRAMS TO GRAMS Please click picture for further information The Quattro LabPrep 150 / 300 are laboratory
instruments, with a modest bench footprint, such that they readily fit
into any chromatography laboratory. All Quattro LabPrep 150 / 300 CCC's are temperature controlled for reproducible CCC chromatography. At any stage 150 / 300's can be updated
to true LabPrep status by buying Prep Bobbins of 600 to 1000 ml capacity. Even if only consider the Ito ' J ' Type, that is, the Quattro CCC Type, you can have different manners to achieve the required ' G ' Force differential. A small sun and planetary radius but very high speed or progressively larger sun and planetary radii, with progressively reducing speed of rotation will both work as Counter Currents. Unfortunately, there are a near infinite number of biphasic solvent system combinations, and whilst some will transfer methodology from one size ' J ' Type to the next, a very large number of solvent systems cannot be scaled from one size ' J ' Type to the next EXPERIMENTATION HAS SHOWN THAT WITH A SINGLE QUATTRO LABPREP, KEEPING ALL PARAMETERS THE SAME EXCEPT OPTIMISING FLOW AND LENGTH OF TUBING ( VOLUME OF COIL ) THAT IF THE BORE IS MAINTAINED, AND FLOW IS INCREASED TO THE LIMIT OF THAT SEPARATION, THEN FOR COLUMN LENGTH INCREASE, SCALE UP IS TOTALLY PREDICTABLE. IF, HOWEVER, ON THAT SAME INSTRUMENT, AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO INCREASE FLOW BY USE OF LARGER INTERNAL DIAMETER TUBING, NO GUARANTEE OF SUCCESSFUL SCALE UP CAN BE PREDICTED, FURTHER EXPERIMENTATION IS REQUIRED TO FIND IF THIS ID OF TUBING WILL WORK AT ANY FLOW RATE FOR MANY CRITICAL SOLVENT SYSTEMS Publications inferring that changes in sun / planetary radii, speed, internal bore diameter etc can be predictably, mathematically extrapolated mislead by accidental or deliberate choice of NON-CRITICAL solvents and solutes. There is therefore a need to define all critical parameters in CCC All Quattro CCC are designed to have acceptable constancy in planet / sun radii and can be purchased with a range of coil internal diameters or coil material type ( PTFE, Stainless Steel etc ). Any Quattro CCC that gives an acceptable resolution at the user defined optimum bore / flow rate / speed combination for a given id / coil material can then be scaled up to any production requirement by use of the appropriate number of Quattro ProcessPrep modules. THE QUATTRO LABPREP :
The Quattro LabPrep has a bench footprint of 710 mm as standard, but custom units with larger footprints, and larger capacity coils ( 2000 or 3000 + mls ) are available, email sales / technical enquires for more details The LabPrep and PilotPrep are effectively from a CCC standpoint, the same instrument, with both having the same options of speed, coil configuration, temperature control etc options. The difference being that for intrinsically safe operation the PilotPrep has no aluminum in it's construction and it has a control / motor etc electrical design to meet intrinsically safe operational standards. The unit can only be purchased with a pair of matched bobbins, which can have 1, 2, 3 or 4 coils on each bobbin. Therefore a single Quattro instrument can be performing up to eight similar analyses on different samples or eight different analyses on one sample or any combination. This facility is designed to provide rapid sample throughput in natural product and combinatorial screening laboratories Coils can be of user specified id and material ( PTFE or STAINLESS, others on request ), with multiple matched sets available at time of purchase, or added as required. Depending on coil material and id chosen; capacity can range from 600 ml to several litres. Typical loadings on this instrument would therefore be sub milligram to 10 to 20 grams plus although certain Quattro users have achieved 20 gram separation on a 600 ml Quattro LabPrep Mk2 and would therefore be able to achieve 100 g loading on a 3000 ml Quattro LabPrep Mk 4.
